Calgary teens to donate 1,000 paper cranes, $1,200 worth of toys to Alberta Children’s Hospital

Youth organization LinkCC was featured by CBC for its Lunar New Year donation to the Alberta Children’s Hospital. Led by youth volunteers Elina Yuan, Bolo Wang, Selina Zhou, Bingxuan Yang, and Xueqi Yang, the team donated over 1,000 paper cranes and $1,200 in toys to brighten patients’ days and share a message of hope and resilience.

The initiative was inspired by a Japanese legend that folding 1,000 paper cranes grants one’s deepest wish: a symbol of hope and healing. Our members shared how meaningful it was for them to give back to their community and brighten the days of young patients.

Awarded for extraordinary community impact, this honour recognized LinkCC’s dedication to empowering youth and supporting Alberta communities during the pandemic.
Presented by the Associate Minister of Mental Health, the award celebrated LinkCC’s contributions to the campaign “Ordinary People in Extraordinary Times.”

Recognized by Ecssen Charity for outstanding volunteer service, this award celebrated LinkCC’s early efforts in community outreach, youth engagement, and cross-cultural collaboration. It marked one of the organization’s first major recognitions for grassroots impact.
