Fight Against Racism to Build a Peaceful Homeland

A CALL TO ACTION

July 5, 2020
Oppose racism and safeguard our peaceable homeland. An all-Canadian online rally.

Waves of anti-racism and calls for social justice have recently swept the globe, and the conscience of humankind is developing before our eyes. Even so, the specter of racism often still haunts us.Especially since the outbreak of the novel corona-virus pandemic, a small number of people have devoted their efforts not to bringing all walks of life in society together as one to fight the pandemic and revitalize the economy, but instead to shift the crisis onto others and seek for scapegoats.

These people make trouble out of thin air, confound right and wrong, mislead the public with falsehoods, and entice and lead Canadians astray by stoking racist sentiment, all with the ultimate purpose of dividing and wrecking Canada’s pluralistic and harmonious social atmosphere. They disseminate racist language until members of minority groups suffer bodily and psychological harm, and sometimes they even carry torches and weapons and burn down commercial establishments.

We absolutely must not turn a blind eye in the face of these adverse currents. We cannot bite our tongues and remain silent, allowing our own legal rights and interests to be trampled upon at will. If we just take it all and suffer in silence, there will be no end of trouble and disastrous consequences for us! Let us state in unison that we shall resolutely oppose racism, sustain the principles in the Canadian Charter of Rights and Freedoms, stem the contrary tide of racism, safeguard the rights, interests, and equality of members of each community along with their physical security, and build a Canada with a happy and peaceable society!

With all our hearts we hope and expect that community associations and individuals in every city will support our call by immediately acting and joining hands with us in fighting and winning this defensive battle for our rights against racism!

Covid-19: Human immune system and Public health session

Date: 2:00 PM – 4:00 PM, May 30, 2020

https://meetingsamer21.webex.com/meet/hacctech

“The whole universe is full of order and law, which is amazing to the wonder and greatness of the Creator. And the immune system is the Creator’s care and gift to people.”
The human body has a strong immune system, which can resist external bacteria and viruses and maintain human health. Therefore, “the most versatile medicine in the world is our body’s own immune system.” It is the key to fighting viruses, bacteria, and harmful pathogens from the outside world. Under the COVID-19 pandemic, for individuals, only through strict defense against their own immunity can the prevalence be reduced. What is immunity, how to strengthen one’s own immune system, and what factors are related to the body’s immunity? I believe this is what everyone is eager to understand.
With the concept of spreading basic health knowledge and serving everyone, we (what organizations or associations) sincerely invite Dr. Fei Wang to explain to you what immunity is and how to strengthen your immune system in daily life. Dr. Fei Wang is a Ph.D. in molecular biology. He has professional and unique insights into the metabolism and biochemical reactions of the human body. Combining the knowledge of nutrition has many years of experience and successful cases in regulating sub-health and chronic diseases.

COVID-19 Appreciation Video

As LinkCC events were put on hold due to COVID-19, we had to turn to alternative ideas that would engage our community during these difficult times. There were many ideas on how to engage with our community. We decided that we would create a video that would incorporate the appreciation of anybody who wished to participate. This video demonstrates the gratefulness for all those at the front-lines, risking their lives to keep everybody safe. Thank you!

Donated Medical Supplies for Calgary Senior Homes and Hospitals

As the pandemic grows increasingly severe in Canada, LinkCC has continued to fund raise money using Go Fund Me to purchase and donate medical supplies for hospitals and care facilities. While the campaign started initially to aid China with medical supplies, LinkCC is turning its attention to help Calgary.

The first presumptive case of Covid-19 appeared in Alberta around March 5 from a Calgary woman returning from a cruise. As of April 2, there are now 589 cases in the Calgary zone. In response to the increasing numbers and limited medical supplies that are necessary for healthcare workers, LinkCC has donated over 1000 medical masks and 10 000 ml of sanitizing solution in partnership with Chinese Calgary Against Covid-19 to Foothills Hospital and Wing Kei Senior Care Center.

During this time, it is important to practice social distancing in order to flatten the curve of cases and remain grateful for those who are on the front line. Doctors, nurses and many healthcare workers continue to work in response to the pandemic with limited equipment that is necessary to protect them. Please consider donating to LinkCC’s campaign (https://bit.ly/39uhsEN) if you would like to support the healthcare facilities that need supplies in order to fight Covid-19.

Raise Funds for the Royal Alexandra Hospital

Gofundme link: gf.me/u/xtafzt

The current coronavirus outbreak, with more than 500 000 cases worldwide as of 26 March 2020, has caused widespread distress to economies and jobs around the world, devastating individuals and communities alike.

Chief among those most at risk are our medical professionals who treat the sick. They have the greatest exposure to COVID-19 and yet are most critical in our medical response. Many hospitals are in great need of extra equipment, most of which is personal protective equipment such as N95 masks and gloves. In New York, a nurse, Kious Kelly, died after being forced to resort to trash bags as protection, refusing to stop caring for victims of the virus.

To help ensure that medical professionals have the tools that they need to treat victims of the COVID-19 pandemic, and out of respect for those who have sacrificed the most, Link CC Youth Society is coordinating a cross-Canada fundraiser to raise funds for hospitals. Edmonton’s recipient will be the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

As of 26 March 2020, in Alberta there are 486 cases, around 3 weeks behind Italy. With your help, we will stop Alberta from becoming the next Italy. Your donation will help stop the spread of this disease, save lives, and return life to normal.

A Memorable Mother’s Day

Maggie is the mother of one of members who participated the Mother’s Day event on May 11, 2019. She is the author of this post.

Alongside my sixth grade daughter, on the weekend of Mother’s Day, we participated in a multievent weekend camp organized by Link CC. It provided me with the opportunity to interact with Link CC 一 a very active youth organization in the Chinese community 一 and to also experience what the event is about.

Below is a brief introduction to the activities of the multievent weekend camp:

  • Link CC team planning and operation, with the professional Pioneer Camp team participating in the implementation of those plans
  • “Secondary School- University- Growth Trilogy”
  • Two days and one night, May 11-12, 2019
  • Daytime activities: horseback riding, archery, treasure hunting with maps, and rock climbing
  • Evening Lectures: Parent Forum, Essential Financial Knowledge for Youth, Effective Communication and Time Management
  • More than 70 middle school students from Edmonton, Calgary and surrounding cities and their parents

01 Carefully planned and organized

It could be seen that the Link CC team has made careful and thorough preparations for this event, from the early fundraising, camp selection, topic selection of lectures, group travel, coordination of volunteers, and accommodation arrangements to the clean up of lodges, returning to the city safely, and ensuring the safety of the children.

02 Teamwork and Leadership

An event is perfect with good planning, clear instructions, and cooperation.

The biggest highlight of this activity is that children worked together as a team, not only being highly cooperative in action but also taking the initiative to take responsibility.

As “old” members of the team, the accompanying parents are also very thoughtful. Just as they have discussed in advance, they withdraw from the child’s sight and give the initiative to the child, providing assistance and safety monitoring only when necessary.

When the parent backs off, the child naturally stands in front.

A few stories to mention:

A girl in high school accompanied and looked after the youngest girl in the team.

As soon as the lights were turned off, the girls who were laughing and joking before immediately became quiet and slept.

Before breakfast, the luggage had been packed neatly with mattresses moved to the attic. The ground had been cleaned up, the activity room was restored, and the toilet was cleaned.

We saw both independence and self-discipline in our children, as well as cooperation and shared responsibility.

03 Experience and Growth

The activities are a physical and mental experience for the children.

Two days and one night away from parents provides a space for children to manage themselves and grow.

The finance and time management courses created specifically for youth helped them to make personal plans in life.

Horse riding, archery, axe throwing, rock climbing, physical challenge, and self-challenge are the physical and mental experiences that have laid the foundation for children to grow.

Through interactions with outstanding peers and the power of role models, it stimulated the inherent motivation of growth.

04 Meeting the Mentor, Making Good Friends

Mentorship is another aspect of this event.

The speaker of the financial management lecture was very attentive. Although finance and budgeting is an abstract and boring concept, she was able to attract the attention of the youth by using images and jelly beans as learning tools. She guided the children step-by-step to complete their task of using a limited budget. This helped children separate between NEED and WANT.

The speaker for the time management lecture is a graduate of Waterloo Engineering and a senior MBA. As someone who has similar backgrounds, he has taught and shared successful learning and work techniques, combined with practical explanations, which practically guided students on how to manage time in the current multimedia and electronic social age. “Not for parents, Just for YOU “.

The young volunteers at the event presented to children who wished to join the volunteer team. Through the help of adult and youth volunteers in the event, people could truly get a sense of what it meant to help someone to the fullest.

This event served as a good way to make new friends. At the beginning of the event, there were several sixth-grade children who did not know each other. Even through the parents’ efforts, they were still unwilling to take the initiative to talk to each other. However, while participating in the events, several children would stick together automatically, like in the case of signing up to wash dishes after meals. It is more exciting to have good friends to participate in events together.

Children can have the opportunity to play in groups, whether they are volunteers or participate in activities. As parents, we are definitely at ease.

This event was also beneficial to the parents. The Parent Forum 一 which was specially prepared for parents 一 shared experiences opened the parents’ mind. This not only broadens the perspective of parents for further education but also expands understanding of future education. In addition, even the parents have become friends! Everyone added each other on WeChat. Parents have the opportunity to sit together offline, meet them, discuss education, and share experiences. This is great!

Thanks to the Link CC team, the event was very successful. Both the adults and children benefitted from this event and I look forward to seeing more creative activities organized by them in the future.

We are very fortunate to have such an active youth organization in our Chinese community.

TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

May this enthusiastic team continue to radiate positive energy to the world, influencing more like-minded young people to participate in giving back to the community and making a change.

As their vision says:

TOGETHER, WE CAN MAKE A DIFFERENCE.

Fund-Raising to deal with Covid-19

On February 14th, amidst the spirit of the widely commemorated Valentine’s Day, members of LinkCC and the broader community came together to offer assistance and supplies to fellow citizens suffering in various regions of China. A substantial number of Chinese residents have now been unable to enjoy the pleasures of this annual holiday as well as the many months that follow due to the novel coronavirus epidemic.

LinkCC’s continuous efforts look to relieve this reality even if that means simply showing those suffering that we care and we are with them through the wake of this tragedy. Nevertheless, through the generous donations of sponsors from local communities, our company was able to extend its aid through boxes of medical equipment. In Canada, where medical supplies are fairly scarce, children split up to find medical supplies, and eventually raised nearly 10,000 yuan which was put towards 1500 Double medical gloves, 180 sets of protective clothing, 120 N95 masks, and 9 buckets of disinfection wipes, which will be mailed to the Karamay city overseas Chinese Federation and donated to Karamay City Center Hospital. Our team spent several hours loading the shipments from medical warehouses to shipment centers for direct transportation to hospitals and medical centers in China.

Emily, Mina, Bolo along with other youth helpers as part of the Canadian youth non-profit organization of LinkCC and the sponsorship of Jiahua Xuanyuan Culture and Education (Beijing) Technology Co., Ltd. to create the success of this project. The children set up a spot in Hospital-Karamay Central where the donations would be received.

For many weeks, our company has been gathering donations to fund these supplies, making these results possible only through the kindness of a collective. To those who played any role in raising these funds, we thank you. To those who spent their days coordinating this project, your input is greatly valued. And of course, to all those affected by these unfortunate circumstances, we wish you the best of luck and hope you know that we are fighting alongside you.

Calgary and Karamay are both world-renowned oil cities. Karamay and notable locations in China were introduced to Calgary residents through former Chinese citizen, Bolo. The children were fascinated by what major oil-producing cities were like on the other side of the world. Inevitably, the coronavirus epidemic has deeply affected the hearts of countless children, so through the initiation of Emily, Mina, and Bolo many youth members joined, and they raised funds. Each of these children has worked hard and learned a lot from this experience. The long run mission for the children is the hope the two major oil cities will be “connected to each other and overcome the difficulties together”.

Fundraising for Medical supplies to Hospitals in China to deal with Coronavirus

An outbreak of the Coronavirus has caused approximately over 1000 deaths, primarily in China, with over 42 500 cases confirmed globally as of Feb 10th, 2020, and the numbers are still increasing quite rapidly. The World Health Organization has declared this a Global Emergency. Many hospitals in China are in urgent need of medical supplies.

Donations will support response efforts in China and LinkCC will ensure the medical supplies are sent to hospitals directly. The funds raised will be used to purchase masks and medical gloves. We plan to ship all the supplies on March 1 and once the supplies are shipped to China, we will post all all receipts on linkcc.ca.

LinkCC is a non profit and registered charity organization and its vision is to build a healthy, equitable, inclusive and welcoming society and connect cultures together. The organizations’ mission is to help China to get through the crisis with adequate medical supplies and we need your support to make it happen.
